Red Classic Teammates Serve Families at Ronald McDonald House

Last week, Red Classic Teammates shared some of their time and treasure at Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte serving families of hospitalized children.

This event is one of many organized annually by Red Classic’s Stewardship Team, a group of teammates who organize service events in the community. The Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte is a charity near and dear to the hearts of many Red Classic teammates.

“The Ronald McDonald House cradles families as they support young loved ones receiving hospital care,” said Elbone Ivey, Sr. Regional Operations Manager and Stewardship Committee member. “During my time at the House I could not ignore the level of detail and thought incorporated into every aspect of the home. Everything was strategically thought out to ensure guests did not feel as if they were staying at your typical hotel but at home.”

The kitchen is open to guests around the clock accounting for residents arriving late whether upon check-in or returning from hospital visitation.

“We prepared a good, old-fashioned southern meal,” Elbone said. “A meal made with love and meant to truly comfort. Just like the Ronald McDonald House, we wanted to prepare a meal that made the residents feel as if they were at home among family.”

Red Classic teammates in the home office joined forces with those who volunteered to cook by donating items for the House. Together, teammates filled the equivalent of two 44-gallon barrels with toiletries, coloring books, colored pencils, toys and household items.

It takes roughly 8,000 volunteers to keep the Ronald McDonald House fully operational each year. Both those who prepared food and those who donated made a great contribution to keep this special place going.
