Purple Heart Homes travels across the country visiting disabled and aging veterans and modifying their homes to be more accessible. We’ve been honored to work with them over the last several years, volunteering on project sites and donating several pickup trucks and small trailers to add to their fleet. To support their growing number of projects more efficiently, in early 2019 they purchased a small school bus that had a previous life as a mobile radio station. By using this bus in combination with one of their small trailers to transport pre-fabricated ramps, they’ll be able to cut down the time to complete a ramp installation project from 2-3 days to 3-4 hours.
They came to us to breathe new life into the bus and one of their small trailers. Their vision for this project was to honor the style of trucks in World War I, with the military green color and contrasting white star. We welcomed the project and went to work in our Charlotte paint and body shop.
First, our team brought the bus and trailer to our paint and body shop where technicians Greg and Dustin removed the decals and paint. They then used our environmentally-friendly sandblaster, which saves time and produces less waste than traditional sandblasters, to create a smooth surface for new layers of paint. They then took the bus and trailer into our 85’ heated paint booth to apply the army green paint. Once the paint was dry, the team applied logo decals, donated by Admark, to complete the look.
Our paint and body shop team enjoys transforming vehicles and trailers to make them look brand new and help our customers and partners put their best foot forward. They especially enjoyed this project knowing that the vehicle and trailer they worked on will benefit veterans and their families.
We are grateful to partner with Purple Heart Homes and appreciate all of the great work they do in communities across the U.S.
