Every year in September, CVSA dedicates a week to safety issues surrounding brakes called Brake Safety Week. During the event, enforcement officials conduct roadside safety inspections on commercial vehicles throughout North America. This year’s event is September 15 -21 and will focus on brake hoses and tubing.

According to CVSA, “out-of-adjustment brakes and brake-system violations represented 45 percent of all out-of-service vehicle violations issued during last year’s three-day International Roadcheck enforcement campaign.” The goal of this event is to bring attention to brake safety issues and reduce the amount of brake-related inspection violations.

During an inspection, drivers should be prepared to provide operating credentials, a Medical Examiner’s Certificate, driver’s record of duty status, vehicle inspection reports, etc.
