Red Classic had another successful Operation Sandwich event by making 1,925 sandwiches for Charlotte’s Urban Ministry Center on June 22. Over the course of three hours, 52 Red Classic volunteers made about 640 sandwiches per hour for the homeless. The Urban Ministry Center is an interfaith organization assisting Charlotte’s most vulnerable by offering services such as soup kitchens, housing, and education at 130 shelters. Operation Sandwich is an Urban Ministry Center program that provides an opportunity to local businesses and organizations to provide food to the homeless in our city.
Red Classic’s stewardship team did another fantastic job in preparing and facilitating Operation Sandwich. “I really appreciate each Red Classic teammate who helped by participating in the sandwich line or packaging sandwiches,” said Sarah Marsh, Red Classic’s Operation Sandwich coordinator. “Each person’s participation was crucial and played an important role in feeding someone in need.”
Here’s what went into making 1,925 turkey and cheese, ham and cheese, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
– 150 loaves of bread
– 1,800 slices of cheese
– 73.5 pounds of turkey
– 69 pounds of ham
Red Classic has hosted Operation Sandwich events each year since 2016. Cumulatively we’ve donated 5,825 sandwiches for individuals and families in need in our community. Thanks to everyone who volunteered, and we look forward to the next opportunity to serve our community together.
